So I know. I’ve been there. When you hear the word “marketing” you are just instantly put off.
It gives you this feeling of something that annoys you or pesters you or is cheesy or too salesy or maybe something you don’t quite understand.
Which is unfortunate because you’ve experienced bad marketing.
Marketing as a whole is a great thing to utilize. Good marketing is good because you don’t necessarily see it as marketing. Good marketing appeals to you in just the right way, in an easily digestible form that provides value.
It’s key to understand why marketing is important.
There are people out there who need what you have. It is not their job to know you exist. It is your job to put yourself out there in front of them. And following in the words of my favorite entrepreneur Marie Forleo, by not pursuing your dreams and doing what you’re meant to do in this world, you are doing a disservice to those that need you the most.
But it also goes further than that. It’s about truly connecting with everyone you engage. And it’s about engaging with everyone. Good marketing is good because it’s authentic, honest, and valuable. It’s what connects you to the people that need you.
So if there’s one thing that you should take from all of this, it’s that you should start to shift your mindset of marketing from a negative experience to a positive one. And keep in mind that you yourself have something to share with the world. It’s your duty to put it out there for people to see.
When you come from a place of service and truly commit to engaging with your followers or fans and give them mind-blowing content, you will never go wrong. Follow that up with consistency and commitment and I promise you will start to see the rewards.
Look at it all as a way to continue to spread your message, reach out to others, and give back.
Now that I can recognize it a lot more, I truly appreciate when a person or company knows exactly how to get my attention, tell me what I need to know, and provide some kind of value in my life. There were a handful of moments where I almost cried tears of joy because I found a product or service that solved a major problem in my life or made me happy.
Even as a creative you provide value to others. Art is important and a beautiful and rare gift. Something that is meant to be shared with others. And art is something of value. Don’t ever undercut yourself.
It will take time to figure out what you are truly meant to do in this world. But once you do, marketing will be the map that takes you in the right direction.
