Every once in awhile we all experience these feelings.
That feeling where you’re not quite sure of your place in the world. The feeling where you’re experiencing self-doubts or uncertainty of your next step in life.
You start second guessing everything you do.
Or you have to convince yourself that you’re doing the “right” things.
I know that I felt that way almost every other week when I was in art school learning photography.
When things get really difficult, I tend to start wondering if it’s really cut out for me. But I try to remind myself that that’s resistance doing what it does best, pushing you back into your comfort zone (or “safe” zone, if you will).
Maybe you’re not sure if you’re on the right path. Or maybe the right path looks downright terrifying.
Maybe everything going on in your life is fine the way it is but you feel like you’re missing something.
Here are 3 big things I learned about bringing life into your work and making sure it aligns with what’s right in your soul:
1. Follow what you believe in.
If your values don’t align with the work you’re doing then your quality of life will suffer. Which in turn affects everything and everyone around you. Watch this AMAZING TEDtalk from Simon Sinek.
He really pushes the idea that people don’t care about what you do but WHY do you do it.
What do you believe in? Is there real substance and authenticity behind your work?
2. Accept that you’re not supposed to know if any one job or plan works out.
That’s the idea behind taking risks, putting yourself out there and being vulnerable. Because that’s how you grow and learn. Do the best you can, stay present and just breathe. Try not to have the kind of mindset where you feel like you’re stuck.
3. It’s a blessing to be able to pursue your passions.
Because not everyone in the world is fortunate enough to have those kinds of opportunities in front of them or are able to choose what they do for a living. So not only is it a gift to have that freedom of choice but almost an obligation to do something about it. If you have the option to follow your dreams then why the hell wouldn’t you? If the fear of failure is holding you back remember that there are much worse things than failing, like doing nothing at all.
I know I need reminders of that regularly.
