Has anyone else noticed lately that almost every person with a pulse has been asking you to sign up for their newsletter? Or email list?
Because it really feels like it. At least to me.
I mean Chase Jarvis recently was asking peeps to sign up for his. And if Chase Jarvis is doing it then you know it’s serious.
Maybe you’re wondering WTF? Or, I already get enough emails as it is, why should I?! What’s going on here?? And bear with me, this post will be kept short and sweet.
And in case you’re too lazy to go to that link and read stuff, let me sum it up in a nutshell for you.
As opposed to social media, email is THE most personal way to get in front of people online. Why? Because you made it to their inbox. Which isn’t easy to do. Trust me. I am one of those people. And I am also one of those people who wants your email.
If someone has signed up for your email updates then that means they want to hear from you! And this is your golden opportunity to bring them immense value for their time. (Time that they’re spending reading your emails.)
This is how you build a relationship with your audience which leads to building trust which leads to leads for sales. People support businesses that they trust and truly like (and BELIEVE in, but more on that at a later time).
And as opposed to social media, you have a direct line to your audience vs. relying on a platform that’s owned by another company and could change or go away at any given moment. (You know, like how Facebook keeps changing their algorithm on audience reach or privacy policies.)
And I don’t know about you but I’ve got my own email account pretty damn well organized for email updates that I signed up for (like from Chase Jarvis or Copyblogger or Marie Forleo) and any other companies/businesses/people I really admire and want to learn more from. It’s turned checking my email into something I actually look forward to. Mind boggling right?
‘Cause I know what it’s like to have a backlog of emails (personal or work) that make you want to scream or cry or throw your computer at the nearest small child.
So I just want to remind you, that it doesn’t have to be this way. You have the power to control what emails you get! (For the most part - you can’t avoid the ones from your boss or your spouse or your landlord, that whole “my dog deleted my email” bit probably doesn’t fly.)
But wouldn’t it be nice to have the ability to actually ENJOY checking your email?
Who doesn’t want to be entertained or inspired or informed of some awesome information?!
Like I said, YOU have the power to opt-in or opt-out as you please!
